Designer Outer Membrane Protein Facilitates Uptake of Decoy Molecules into a Cytochrome P450BM3‐Based Whole‐Cell Biocatalyst

A loop deletion mutant of outer membrane protein F (OmpF) that facilitates the cellular uptake decoy molecules into Escherichia coli has been developed. In their Communication (e202111612), Osami Shoji and co-workers report co-expression OmpF with wild-type CYP102A1 enables an E. coli-based whole-cell biocatalyst to efficiently oxidise benzene, alkyl- cycloalkylbenzenes help molecules, bringing this system a significant step closer practical applications.
